Kavanagh set to leave Sunderland on loan

Posted on 13th September 2007

SunderlandSunderland midfielder Grahm Kavanagh is set to leave the club on loan. Sheffield Wednesday look like pipping Leeds United for the loan services of Sunderland’s veteran player. The thirty-four year old former Republic of Ireland, Middlesbrough, Stoke, Cardiff and Wigan player is looking to overcome an injury problem at the Stadium of Light. However his first-team prospects appear slim under boss Roy Keane on Wearside, prompting talk of a possible loan switch.

Yorkshire rivals Leeds United of League One were thought to be very interested in taking Kavanagh, but Owls boss Brian Laws is aiming to hijack their bid with the lure of Championship football. The silver-haired star is renowned for his tireless efforts in the middle of the park and would hand Wednesday a timely boost following their disastrous winless start to the season. It is not certain if the club would be taking Kavanagh on a short-term loan or with a view to a permanent switch to Hillsborough.
