Allardyce looking forward to Arsenal clash

Posted on 6th September 2007

Newcastle UnitedNewcastle United manager Sam Allardyce can’t wait to take his side to Arsenal in the third round of the Carling Cup. Allardyce has set his sights on winning his first game as a manager at Arsenal. Many United fans believe the Carling Cup represents the best chance of ending that long wait to bring some silverware to St James’.

Despite the fact that the match is away from home Allardyce is still looking forward to the trip.

“We were looking for a bit of luck with the draw. Obviously, you were looking to get two big boys together later in the competition,” said Allardyce. “I’ve never won at Arsenal - this would be the first time. I came close one year when Gilberto scored a late equaliser. Hopefully, I can go one better this time.”

Arsenal have made a habit of giving some of their squad players a run out in the competition and the Newcastle United manager expects this to continue when the two teams meet in nineteen days. “He’ll play his squad players - he always starts with them,” said Allardyce. “And we’ll rotate our squad accordingly, just the same.”
