We can get better warns Wilson

Hartlepool UnitedHartlepool United manager Danny Wilson is warning that his side can get even better. Hartlepool continued their good start to the season with a 4-1 thrashing of Oldham. But Wilson warned there is still more to come after watching his troops make their best start to a campaign in almost twenty years and move to third top of the league.

“It’s a tough league and we have had a decent start,” he said. “You have to be tough and you have to be durable. You need those characteristics and we have them. You need the results and the right outcome to really endorse what you are trying to tell the lads before the game and in the build up. Now they have the results so far they can start to think they have a chance to get a good run going. We are in a good position, but it’s only four games. It was a fantastic performance on Saturday, but we played within ourselves again. All you want to do is keep the run going and keep the confidence levels up.”

Oldham handed a debut to controversial striker Lee Hughes after his release from prison. However the player barely got a sniff. Pools recovered from going behind to a shock Craig Davies opener to roar back with four goals from four different strikers.

“I think we were always in control and it was a bit of a blow to go behind, with a rare mistake,” Wilson said. “But overall we were very much in charge and I always felt there was a second gear for us. It's a great thing to have in the locker.”
