Players are buying me time admits Allardyce

Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce feels that there is more to come from his side. The Magpies are unbeaten since the start of the season. Allardyce has rebuilt the squad this summer after succeeding Glenn Roeder in the St James’ Park hot seat and asked for time to turn things around earlier in the summer. However things have started well for him.
“I have torn the place apart in three months. I wanted some patience, I needed some time and the players are buying me time with results,” said Allardyce. “We are undefeated, we have got eight points and we are not anywhere near our best yet, but what we are doing at the moment is good enough to win Premier League matches, or good enough to keep us undefeated.”
Newcastle United continued their good start with a 1-0 win over Wigan at the weekend. James Milner praised his team mates for getting the result. Michael Owen’s goal may have come with time almost up at Gallowgate, but the late result means that United are unbeaten and yet to concede a goal at St James’ going into the international break.
“Scoring late on doesn’t matter to us, the aim is to get the three points and that is all that matters,” said Milner. “We could have got frustrated and tried to play a different way, but we kept plugging away. And the important thing is that the goal from Michael came in the end. Everybody needs to stay patient and focused in situations like that, and that’s what we were.”
