We won’t be distracted says Wilson

Hartlepool UnitedHartlepool United will not be distracted by the task in hand says manager Danny Wilson. Pools take on Oldham this weekend where the media will be watching the Latics controversial signing Lee Hughes. The forward was recently released from prison after serving half of his six-year sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

“I am sure there will be a lot of coverage and a lot of interest in things other than the game but we can’t let ourselves be affected by it,” Wilson said. “They might take a flier and put him in. We don’t know, and we don’t know how he will do because no-one has seen him for some time. But it is nothing do with us and we are just concentrating on getting a good result and hopefully putting on a good performance.”

Hartlepool will be without the injured Willie Boland. Despite this Wilson is confident his side are in good shape to take on John Sheridan’s strugglers - despite the disappointment of the last-gasp Carling Cup exit at Sheffield Wednesday.

“The lads had 120 minutes on Tuesday but they are completely fine,” he added. “It was a difficult match in terms of work-rate, but it was not overly-physical, so we didn’t have too many bumps and bruises. The lads were disappointed, but that has fired them up even more for tomorrow.”
