Reserves are so important says Quakers’ boss

DarlingtonDarlington manager Dave Penney has praised the quality of the pitch at Norton. The club are playing their reserve and youth games at Norton to protect their surface at the Darlington Arena. Quakers are aiming for promotion this season and the reserves will play an important part in pushing players for their places.

“The Norton pitch is magnificent,” said Penney. “Our youth and reserve teams will play there. We need a good surface for them, so it’s ideal for us. We want the reserves to do a lot better this year so that they put pressure on the first team players. Having a good surface is vital if we are to bring players on, so we are delighted with the pitch that Norton provide.”

The reserves will also play an important part in players returning from injury. The manager does not want to have to rush players back this season, as he had to do at times last year when the squad was stretched by injury and illness, particularly over the hectic Christmas period.

“This season we can give them full rehabilitation after injury. It helps when you can bring players back into the team fully fit, because if they aren’t they risk breaking down again and being out for longer,” he said.
