Sunderland to make few changes

SunderlandAhead of the Carling Cup clash with Luton Sunderland manager Roy Keane says that there will be no messing around. Keane has taken a full-strength squad - injuries apart - for the fixture and clearly expects progress.

“There certainly won’t be any squad rotation,” said the Sunderland manager. “We’re not in a position to do that. In fact, I might get my boots back on myself. We can’t be messing about. There might be one or two lads who come into it - people like Stan Varga - but it won’t be wholesale changes. It's a competition we want to do well in and we will go out with the same attitude that we will have at Manchester United on Saturday.”

Meanwhile Sunderland player Grant Leadbitter could be set to start for the Black Cats. Leadbitter returned to action for the first time this season against Liverpool following hamstring problems but is now expected to start. Keane has welcomed his come back.

“It’s great to have Grant back. He is a quality player and we have missed him,” said Keane. “In an ideal world, I wouldn’t have used him at the weekend, but he trained for the last few days and the injury situation meant I needed to bring him in. I like him - he has a good first touch and he’s a bubbly character who has a chance of becoming a top player. If there is no reaction from his hamstring, there is a good chance he will play a part at Luton.”
