Wilson aims for cup progress

Hartlepool UnitedHartlepool United manager Danny Wilson has called on his team to record another win in the Carling Cup second round. Hartlepool United saw off Port Vale at the weekend and will now be looking to extend their decent early season form with progress in the cup.

“We are going there in good form and we are going there to enjoy it,” said Wilson. “There is massive pressure on Sheffield Wednesday and we can just go there and enjoy the game and see if we can pull off a shock. Nobody will fancy us at all, apart from that group I have in the dressing room and our fans. We know it will be difficult, they are a good side, and they are looking to go from the Championship to the Premiership so it is going to be tough. They have good players and we will have to be at the top of our game if we are going to get anything.”

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws is coming under increasing pressure for his side’s poor start to the season and they threw away a two-goal lead at Charlton on Saturday to lose 3-2. Pools went to Hillsborough four years ago in the cup and chalked up a memorable win on penalties. Wilson believes his side can get a similar result this time around.
