Pools interested in Duffy capture

Hartlepool United would like to land Darryl Duffy from Hull City before the transfer window closes. The forward remains top of Hartlepool’s list and whilst Hull manager Phil Brown is a keen admirer of the player his board would find it hard to turn down any bid for the player. However in order for Pools to land the player they must agree a fee with the Tigers and agree terms with the player.
League One leaders Scunthorpe are also preparing a late move for the twenty-two-year-old, who banged in five goals in ten games on loan at Victoria Park, but should the Iron fail, Pools are lying in wait. There is interest in his native Scotland, including former team Falkirk, but no clubs outside big two Celtic and Rangers can meet Hull’s valuation. Scunthorpe, however, are determined to add to their squad after missing out on former York City striker Clayton Donaldson - who signed for Scottish side Hibs yesterday.
“I am hoping we can do a bit of business but it is a case of waiting to see what other clubs do,” said Danny Wilson said today. “A lot of them are in the same boat and they won’t release players until they get others in themselves. It will be a busy day up and down the country. There is not a great deal of panic. It is not as if we are needing to bring players in to dig us out a hole. The squad has performed very well in the last few months but you are always looking at ways to strengthen.”
The signature of former Middlesbrough attacker Craig Hignett is not, however, part of the immediate plans, even though he played 90 minutes for Pools reserves yesterday.
Coach Ian Butterworth said: “Craig has been training with us to keep up his fitness and he has been great to have around the club. He is such a clever player who looks after himself and he is a good influence on the young lads. But that is far as it goes at the moment.”
