Albert Luque set to stay with Magpies

Posted on 25th January 2007

Newcastle UnitedNewcastle player Albert Luque has missed out on a dream move to Villareal because the Spanish club have signed former Toon striker Jon Dahl Tomasson. Newcastle United have been reportedly in talks with Villareal over a loan move for the player which would have taken the misfit back to Sapin.

They have discussed a loan fee and Luque’s father, who acts as his agent, is in Newcastle hoping to push through a deal which will end his son’s Tyneside torment. However, it is now unlikely Luque will be back in Spain in time for this weekend’s match with Real Madrid.

“Luque’s move to Villareal is very much in the balance because of the Jon Dahl Tomasson situation,” said Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder. “I would say there has to be a big big doubt as to whether he will be moving there. This follows on from the deal with PSV Eindhoven falling through and there is no other club for him on the horizon. This being the case, it looks as though Albert will be here, not only for the rest of this campaign, but also at the start of next season.”
