Injury concerns for Pools

Hartlepool UnitedHartlepool United face problems ahead of their weekend match with Bury. Willie Boland is set to miss the game and Pools are sweating on the fitness of Eifion Williams who limped off in the 1-1 draw with Wrexham last Saturday. Boland sat out Pools’ victory over MK Dons as well as the draw in north Wales with a hamstring injury and manager Danny Wilson today insisted he will not be risked.

“Willie’s injury is still pretty much the same and he doesn't look like making the weekend,” Wilson said. “It would be pointless risking him at this stage with some big games ahead. We are a bit more hopeful regarding Eifion. He has been carrying a slight calf strain and it tightened up at Wrexham but we will wait and see how he is later in the week.”

There is better news for Hartlepool as manager Wilson will be able to call upon Michael Nelson. The twenty-four-year-old centre-back has served his one-match suspension and will go straight back into the side. Pools are looking to make it thirteen matches without defeat and Wilson admitted his side were disappointed not to be going into the clash on the back of another win.

“We have Nelse back and that is a big plus to us,” Wilson said. “I thought Ben Clark and Gary Liddle did very well for us against Wrexham - as they did when Nelse missed those two games with injury - and they were pretty solid. Apart from a couple of shaky moments they coped well against (Lee) McEvilly, who's a proper handful. But Nelson is one of the best around at what he does and is good to have him available again. The lads are now disappointed when they don’t win - and that is the way they should be.”
