MiddlesbroughItalian side Siena are desperate to sign Massimo Maccarone before the close of the January transfer window. The Middlesbrough player is available on a free transfer however some contractual issues need to be sorted before a deal can be agreed. Maccarone’s agent Paolo Fabbri remains confident that the transfer can be completed early next week.

“We have undergone negotiations for Maccarone’s free transfer to Siena,” he said. “We are awaiting the OK from the Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson for the deal to be completed and that should arrive on Monday. There is an agreement with Siena and Maccarone could sign a three to four-year contract with them.”

The move will bring to an end Maccarone’s personal nightmare and give him the opportunity to resurrect his career in Italy. While the club’s £8.15m record signing is set to move on, Boro’s second biggest signing Ugo Ehiogu has started training with Rangers. His move to Ibrox is expected to be rubber-stamped before the weekend.
