Wilson hails Barker’s first

Hartlepool UnitedHartlepool United manager Danny Wilson has hailed forward Richie Barker for opening his account after the club but believes his side should have taken all three points against Wrexham at the weekend. Hartlepool drew 1-1 a result which keeps Pools well in the hunt.

Howeve Hartlepool had to survive a second-half onslaught from the Dragons, who had been rocked by the sacking of manager Denis Smith the previous week and the news that club captain Darren Ferguson had left to take up the manager's job at rivals Peterborough.
But the opening period saw Pools dominate and a second goal would have killed off the fragile hopes of the Racecourse Ground outfit.

“To get the goal so soon will give Richie a great boost,” Wilson said. “It was a clinical finish and he had to dig it out from under his feet before planting it in the bottom corner. We know what he can do in those situations but it was tight and he opened his body up and banged it in the bottom corner. It was brilliantly taken. I think he played well for the whole game. He leads the line fantastically well and he takes some amount of hits. He battles away and he is going to be a great lift for us.”
