No slip ups warns Wilson

Hartlepool UnitedHartlepool United take on Wrexham this weekend and manager Danny Wilson insist the club can not afford to slip up. Hartlepool United are in excellent form at the moment and pushing hard for promotion. However Wilson believes any slip up now could prove costly.

Pools go into the Racecourse Ground clash unbeaten in eleven, on the verge of the automatic play-off places and hot on the heels of league leaders Walsall. The Saddlers are eight points ahead and come to Victoria Park in three weeks time - on the back of a kind run of fixtures against Manfield, Boston, Macclesfield and Rochdale, all towards the bottom of the division.

“We lifted ourselves massively for the MK Dons game, as they did, but it is easy to do that against the sides who are at the top,” Wilson said. “It is east to lift it for the likes of MK Dons, Swindon, Lincoln or Walsall but we have got to make sure we are exactly the same way at Wrexham. Wrexham have good players in their team and they is no way they are the third worst team in this division. What it does suggest is that their confidence is a bit low and we have to try to take advantage of that. At the end of the season and you have been successful you look back on these types of games. It is the ones that people expect you to win that you need that extra bit of motivation for. We are going to a club who are having a mixed time at the minute. The are third bottom in the league and have no manager at the moment.”

Walsall have been involved at the top end of the table since day one of the League Two season and Wilson does not expect them to start passing up points now. Wilson feels however he and his players must simply get on with their own jobs.

“I would expect Walsall to get maximum points from those games so it is up to us to do the same,” said the Hartlepool boss. “We have to keep the gap at a minimum of what it is at the moment and win all of our games. But anything can happen between now and then. We just have to get on with our jobs. If we start thinking about other teams are doing we could take the foot off the gas ourselves. We can't look for favours elsewhere, we need to keep our own foot down.”
