Milner looking to progress

Newcastle United player James Milner says that any talk of making the fourth round of the FA Cup has been banned around St James’ Park. Newcastle United take on Birmingham City in a third round replay.
Milner is delighted at the prize of a home draw with the Royals should they see off Steve Bruce's side but knows that Newcastle must stay focused on the task in hand. United go into the game on the back of a superb Premiership win at Tottenham. Milner was left frustrated that the tie against Birmingham could not be done and dusted first time around but is confident it can be wrapped up in the replay.
“We cannot really be looking ahead to the next round as we have got a tough game against Birmingham and we have got to make sure we do the job there,” said Milner. “It was massively frustrating with them having a man sent off and being on top for the majority of the game and playing decent football. We created chances and maybe it was our own fault because we should have taken a couple of chances at the other end. But it was one of those things. That is the FA Cup - things happen like that and we just need to make sure we go into the game with the right mentality and do the job and not get sloppy.”
Newcastle United have been linked with a number of new players during the transfer window but Milner isn't overawed by the prospect of new faces. In fact, he is more excited by the idea.
“It is great coming into a club like Newcastle every day and seeing the players we have got anyway,” he said. “Obviously, it is a massive club and there are always big names linked with the club. That's what you want. You want competition in every position, and we have got that when players are fit. At the moment, we have got a lot of injuries and there is not as much competition in the place. But on the other hand, there are a lot of younger players coming through. It would be great for everyone and give us a lift if players were brought in, but that's not up to us. That is up to the manager and the board and I am sure they will make the right decisions and bring the right players in.”
