Evans would welcome extended stay

SunderlandSunderland player Jonny Evans has suggested he would welcome a chance to spend next season at the Stadium of Light. The nineteen year old is currently on loan from Manchester United and made an impressive home debut to help Sunderland move to within a point of the play-offs on Saturday.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane probably stands little chance of landing the player on a permanent basis as he has signed a four and a half year deal with United. However the loan period could be extended beyond the next four month period.

Evans last night used Ben Foster - the Red Devils goalkeeper who is on loan at Watford for the second successive season - as an example and he is enjoying his time on Wearside so much, it seems the Northern Ireland international would be receptive to any opportunity to do the same with the Black Cats, should promotion accomplished.

“I'm loving it here,” said Evans. “I’m delighted Sir Alex Ferguson has given me the chance to come and play in this league. I know it’s only a six-month period but we have seen what has happened with Ben Foster. He was part of the squad that got Watford promoted and he has stayed there. It has furthered his development, playing in the Premiership. I don’t know whether that would be the case with Sunderland, if we got promoted whether Sir Alex would let me stay. But given the way it’s going, I am enjoying it and we will see what happens.”
