Pools win again

Hartlepool UnitedHartlepool United recorded another victory with a 1–0 win over MK Dons. Hartlepool went ahead ten minutes after the break when Andy Monkhouse's pass sent Sweeney into the area and he slotted a low shot in from twelve yards.

Pool also went close when Eifion Williams hammered a great volley against the crossbar. Four players were booked after a 17–man brawl while MK Dons' Izale Mcleod was shown red for a foul on Michael Nelson.

Danny Wilson said his side were full value for the three points they picked up with victory over League Two rivals MK Dons. Pools are now fifth in the table following their latest result.

"I think we played the conditions very well," Wilson said. "In the first half we defended very stoutly, won most of the headers and restricted them to very few chances – that's pleasing because they're a force going forward. Then in the second half it was important that we tried to utilise the wind and put them under pressure and we did that. It was a big game for us and we knew we'd need all our battling qualities at the fore and they were thankfully."

Wilson's side are now only one point behind MK Dons in the table. "The table could look better; I'd prefer it if we were top – now we have to keep Walsall in our sights, that's the aim," he said.
