Darlington defender could return

Posted on 14th December 2006

DarlingtonDarlington defender Darren Holloway could return this weekend to ease manager Dave Penney's injury worries. Quakers have been short on central defenders in recent weeks making things extremely tough for Penney.

Quakers have been without Darren Holloway for nearly a month thanks to a hamstring complaint. The twenty'nine year old former Sunderland player last featured for Darlington when they ran out 3'1 winners at Lincoln City in November – a game where Holloway opened the scoring as the visitors turned in their best performance of the season.

Without defenders Joey Hutchinson and the on'loan Mark Albrighton Quakers have really been tested. Things could be improving though as Holloway may well figure for Darlington as Notts County make the trip to the North East. Holloway has trained this week and was no risked in the reserve clash with Pools yesterday night.

"He is going to train again today. We didn't want to risk him in the reserve team last night so hopefully he will train today, we'll have a light session on Friday and he could be available for selection on Saturday," said Penney. "Centre half is the position we are struggling massively in with Joey (Hutchinson) and Mark (Albrighton) injured. We are trying to get defensive bodies back as quick as we can. We can't bring anyone in until January 1st so we just have to get on with it."
